Welcome to the Sub-Branch website

The Richmond Sub-Branch has a proud history in providing services to returned servicemen and women and their dependants.  Since the formation of the Sub-Branch in 1920, the members have provided support and camaraderie to the men and women of the three Services in their defence of Australia’s national interests in time of war.

The formation of the Sub - Branch came at a time when Richmond was the industrial hub of the thriving city of Melbourne.  The Sub-Branch attracted hundreds of ex servicemen as they returned from two World Wars.  The Sub-Branch’s prominence in the life of Richmond attracted the support of local government and in 1922, the City of Richmond purchased the land located at 399 Church Street and constructed the building solely for the use of the Sub -Branch.  In 1984, the building and land was sold by the City of Richmond to the Sub-Branch to ensure its continued existence.  The proud relationship between the Sub-Branch and the City of Yarra continues to this day.

From its formation, the Richmond Sub – Branch has continued to support the aims, traditions and history of the Victorian Branch of the RSL
